The Session One theme for Intermediate Hand Building is "Stylized Figures." In this course you will learn how to construct a head and other parts of a figure in a stylized manner, focusing on developing your own style through the facial details, textures, glaze, and more. The techniques you’ll learn will also help you build successful large-scale sculptures beyond the figure! You will learn to construct an interior structure that will give any large sculpture strength and increase your chances of success.

The Session One theme of Intermediate Wheel is "Thrown and Altered." In this class you will learn that cutting into thrown forms isn't scary - it is fun and leads to endless possibilities! The class projects will be darted mugs, non-circular bowls, and multi-section serving dishes. There will also be a demonstration on overglaze decals with a chance to fire a few of your own!
Registration for Session One of 2026 will open on Saturday, December 13th at noon.
CLASS OFFERINGS

LEVEL ONE: INTRO TO WHEEL
In "Intro to Wheel" you will be guided weekly through the process of creating pottery from start to finish. Beginners, this class is for you! If you have taken a class before but are struggling with centering, pulling walls, or throwing a cylinder, this class is a great refresher to sharpen those skills.
LEVEL TWO: INTERMEDIATE WHEEL
In "Intermediate Wheel" you will take the basic knowledge you have learned in previous throwing courses and expand your skillset. We generally recommend that you take two "Intro to Wheel" courses before moving up to this level. This class is for potters who can already create basic forms on the wheel but would like to learn new forms and surface decoration techniques. You will also practice centering and throwing slightly larger amounts of clay (3-4 lbs).
INTRO TO HAND BUILDING
In "Intro to Hand Building" you will learn about the possibilities of clay outside of the wheel! Using techniques such as coil building, slab rolling, pinching, pulling and more, you will learn how to create forms and expand your knowledge of clay. The possibilities are endless!
INTERMEDIATE HAND BUILDING
In "Intermediate Hand Building" you will take skills learned in your introductory course and expand on them! We will build larger vessels and complex forms. Bring your ideas and we will make them come to life!

HYBRID: HAND BUILDING + 1.5 WHEEL
In "Hybrid: Hand Building + 1.5 Wheel" you will learn how to incorporate more hand built elements into your wheel thrown work! Two previous wheel courses are required to sign up for this course.
